Why Provenship

The calculation and reporting platform. Not a verifier. Not an operations system.

We compute the obligation under FuelEU Maritime, EU ETS shipping, and IMO CII, and produce the report behind it. The verifier signs it; the operations system runs the ship.

No usage meter. No charge that grows with pollution.

Not a verifier

The accredited verifier signs the report. We produce it.

Reg. (EU) 2015/757 Article 11 reserves attestation to accredited verifier bodies. Provenship is verifier-neutral by design — we hand them a defensible pack.

Regulator-style formula sheet on a dark wooden desk under low-angle lamp light.

Not a router

The operations platform runs the voyage. We consume the data it generates.

Voyage optimisation and commercial routing are a different category. We do not bid for that work; we plug into it and turn its output into a verifier-ready report.

Abstract minimalist data architecture flow on deep navy, suggesting Provenship platform.

Not a bunker supplier

We never broker fuel. Conflict of interest by construction.

A platform that earns commission on fuel choice cannot honestly compute the penalty for that choice. We refuse the model.

Comparison

VendorCategoryOverlap with Provenship
Accredited verifier servicesAccredited verifierValue comparison only. We compute the report; they accredit and sign it. Provenship is not pursuing accreditation in v1 or v2.
Vessel-rating platformsMaritime emissions SaaSDirect reference category. Provenship differentiates on reconciliation discipline (every number traceable to the regulation table) and on a tighter scope (we refuse what we cannot ground in a citation).
Voyage / chartering platformsMaritime operations systemNot overlapping. They own the voyage and the commercial cycle; we consume the voyage and BDN data and compute the regulatory obligation.
In-house spreadsheetsMost operators todayThe honest competitor. Provenship’s pitch vs. a spreadsheet is reproducibility, citation provenance, and the ability to hand the verifier a defensible PDF instead of a 40-tab workbook.

The bar we hold ourselves to

Two independent code paths over the EMSA THETIS-MRV public 2023 dataset agree to four decimal places on aggregate 2026 FuelEU penalty. See /methodology for the run details.
